Most Brussels plumbers charge a call-out fee covering the first thirty or sixty minutes, then hourly labour. Parts and consumables are billed separately.

Why Brussels can cost more
The Brussels building stock is old: townhouses with shared risers, apartment blocks with meters in the cellar, lead or galvanised steel still present in some pre-war houses in Saint-Gilles, Schaerbeek or Molenbeek.
Add paid parking zones and narrow streets in the centre and the Marolles. A tradesperson circling for twenty minutes bills that time one way or another. Serious companies state it instead of hiding it in a 'miscellaneous' line.
6% VAT: the discount people forget
In Belgium, renovation work in a private home older than 10 years is taxed at 6% instead of 21%, including labour and materials supplied by the contractor. On a €1,000 invoice that is €150.
The reduced rate applies when the property is used mainly as private housing and the invoice is issued to the end customer. A specific legal statement must appear on the invoice — check it before paying.
How to avoid nasty surprises
Three habits are enough: ask for the call-out rate before the visit, require a written quote as soon as the amount exceeds a few hundred euros, and refuse any invoice without a Belgian enterprise (BCE/KBO) number.
